Student Groups

The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) offers advising to approximately 400 student organizations by providing program and event management, financial advising and management, planning and budgeting, conflict resolution, and goal setting.

The OSA administers the funding of several on-campus programs, including the Ethnic Studies Fee, The Committee on Student Fees, The Berkeley Worms Composting Project and Cal Corps.

ADVISING

Student group programs and events are sponsored and funded by the Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC). Through its Constitution and By-Laws, the ASUC charges the OSA the responsibility of advising these student groups in keeping with University and ASUC policies and procedures, and Federal and State rules and regulations.

OSA provides financial advising and management of accounts for each student group sponsored by the ASUC. Student groups are required to register with the Campus Office of Student Life (102 Sproul Hall) and to attend a Budget Workshop with their assigned OSA Advisor before the group can access its funds or can be allocated use of office space and/or equipment.

Each group’s OSA Advisor has an open-door policy. Advisors are available to meet with student groups to assist with planning and budgeting its programs, events and activities throughout the year. Advisors are also available to assist groups with conflict management or resolving any problems they may encounter as an ASUC-sponsored group. OSA Advisors work closely with student groups in establishing goals that support the group’s Constitution and mission.
